Guiding Principles and Benefits

Guiding Principles

  1. Club will benefit all of our student-athletes
    • Every student-athlete will develop throughout the season
    • Student-athletes are encouraged to pursue the sport as far as they want to take it
  2. Maximum Coach to Athlete Ratio: one for every two (2) eights (8+), or 1:18
  3. Parents have a voice and are an integral part of the club.
    • Parents are voting members of the club
    • Parents can be members of the Board and volunteer on committees
    • Parents have a Member-At-Large representative who is a direct channel to the Board
  4. All coaches work with both Varsity and Novice to give student athletes benefit of multiple perspectives

Benefits to our Kids

  • Student-athletes will earn a varsity letter and be recognized by the UHS National Honor Society, yearbook & morning announcements, among others
  • UHS will work with our club to support in same manner as is done for Rugby and Hockey
  • We are growing in number and could likely support a 30-40 athlete team
  • Land training will require less commuting time where possible during regular and ‘off’ seasons.
  • Regattas will be High School-only focused and enable them to row under UHS Indians’ name
  • Focus on enrichment via a standing committee to benefit athletes (e.g., promote camps, clinics, college recruitment & speakers with rowing experience)
  • Introductory program starts in Middle School allowing longer time period to develop skill
