Mid Atlantic Race Results – Girls Team

Tags :

Over the weekend, our team competed at the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships regatta on Mercer Lake in New Jersey. We raced several fast teams that we have not competed against yet this season because this regatta was a Club event rather than Scholastic. Club refers to the students that are competing in the boats. When a team races as Club, the athletes can attend various schools but row as one team. For example, both Newport Rowing Club and WYRA are local Club teams that competed at the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships. When a team is classified as Scholastic, all the athletes must attend the same school. The Flicks and City Championships, as well as, Stotesbury are Scholastic Regattas.

Our Varsity Girls Four was the first event for Unionville to race on Saturday. They had a strong race and finished with a time of 8:42.342, narrowly missing qualifying for semi-finals by 1.9 seconds. During the race, they had trouble identifying how much distance was remaining on the course, which may have affected their finish placement. With starting their sprint late, they crossed the finish line before they could pull past the third place boat to qualify for semi-finals. Here are some pictures that were taken by Row2k: 114, 120

The girls team also had two 2nd Varsity Fours racing. One of our 2nd Varsity Fours had a mixed lineup of three varsity rowers and one novice rower. They rowed well but they only practiced a few times together as a boat. With more practice in the lineup, they might have had a more solid performance. They placed 5th in their heat with a time of 9:16.160. Here are some pictures that were taken by Row2k: 89, 92, 97

Our second 2nd Varsity Four consisted of four novice rowers and a varsity coxswain. Because the coxswain was considered Varsity, the entire boat had to race as Varsity. With a growing program, this sometimes has to happen. The girls were nervous but excited to compete. Unfortunately, they were placed in a fast heat and finished 5th with a time of 9:02.113 and did not qualify to race again on Sunday in the Final. In any other heat, they would have advanced to Semi-Finals. Here are some pictures that were taken by Row2k: 83, 86

Although Unionville did not have a girls boat qualify for Sunday racing, we were excited to watch the boys Novice 4+ and U17 8+ compete on Sunday.
